Why Two Steps?
Unlike traditional surf wax, Cayucos Surf Wax is designed as a complete system.
Base Coat builds durable, aggressive bumps that become the foundation for your traction.
Temperature specific Topcoat locks into those bumps to provide dependable grip throughout your session.
Together they create a complete surf wax system designed to perform.
Step 1 - Build the Bumps
Start with a cool, clean and dry board in the shade.
Apply Cayucos Surf Wax Base Coat using firm pressure on the sharp corner of the bar and draw a cross hatch pattern.
Once you have your pattern, continue applying with the side of your bar in a circular motion to cover the board.
As bumps begin to form, ease your pressure and continue to build an even foundation of bumps.
Building your base coat takes a little more time than traditional wax, and that's intentional.
Take your time, those bumps become the foundation that locks in your Topcoat for dependable grip session after session.
Step 2 - Lay the Grip
After you've built a solid foundation of bumps, apply the appropriate Cayucos Surf Wax Topcoat for your water temperature.
Using light to moderate pressure, spread the Topcoat evenly across the bumps. The Topcoat locks into into the bumps, creating the dependable grip your feet connect with while surfing.
Before your next session, inspect your board and refresh the Topcoat as needed. The Base Coat provides the foundation beneath it and won't need to be reappplied every time.
Depending on how often you surf, the amount of Topcoat buildup, normal wear, and dirt accumulation, you'll eventually want to clean the board and build a fresh Base Coat before applying a new layer of Topcoat.
Step 3 - Paddle Out
You've built the bumps.
You've laid the grip.
Now do what you came for.
